Our Story
Introduced by Graham Searle
The Club was formed in December 1984 and grew rapidly. Within 12 months, we had established a glossy A4 monthly magazine, a Jaguar spares department and a technical advice service that was second to none. Within 18 months, we'd built a remarkable membership of 2,000, clearly identifying the JEC as the fastest-growing single-marque Club.
Our range of facilities and services has steadily expanded over the years, and now encompasses three club insurance schemes, specialist model seminars, major events and trips, our industry-leading 140-page colour monthly magazine, independent manufacturing of specialist tools and spares, and the largest selection of Jaguar memorabilia available anywhere.
We currently operate 90 national and international JEC regions. These regions run a variety of events in the UK and overseas, including regular 'noggin and natter' evenings at local hostelries, video and talk shows, and visits to local specialists, and produce comprehensive monthly newsletters to report on all their activities.
Our flagship monthly magazine, Jaguar Enthusiast, contains everything from full month-on-month restorations and social events to both new and small-scale model news and has attracted great acclaim from Classic Car magazine. Nigel Thorley, Jaguar Enthusiast editor, was awarded 'Best Editor of the Year', JEC has been voted 'Club of the Year', and Jaguar Enthusiast itself has won the hotly-contested 'Club Magazine of the Year' award on three occasions. In 2017 we won the “Event of the Year” award for our Windsor event and also the Charity Contribution award for raising £102,000 at that event.
We are very proud of our strong relationship with Jaguar Land Rover (particularly Jaguar Land Rover Classic, the company's historic arm), and work very closely with them to further appreciation of the iconic marque. Along the way, we have restored a historic Mark 1, and refurbished cars including the Series 1 XJ6 that belonged to Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons, the original Series 3 E-Type press car, and a unique Series 2 XJ which was used as a development car and served as the Jaguar Chairman's main transport.
Over the years, we have worked closely with the organiser of the largest single-make Spares Day in the world. In March and October of each year, over 120 stallholders and over 2000 enthusiasts descend on the National Agriculture Centre at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire to find that elusive part, or simply browse and talk about everything Jaguar.
While we work hard to ensure that the technical side of our club is well catered for, we also recognise the great importance of the social side, which is why we hold at least one major international rally every year, spreading them around the country and often supporting them with weekend break packages. In addition, many of our local regions hold their own rallies during the summer, and we've organised and been involved with many overseas trips.
We run JEC from our dedicated office premises in Bristol.
