1958 Jaguar MK1 3.4 litre

Now a comparatively rare sight on the roads, the Jaguar Mk1 saloon has become increasingly sought after during the past few years.

Many enthusiasts will have seen these earlier Jaguars in action at the Goodwood Revival where their sporting prowess makes for exciting racing. The Mk1 was a regular sight at circuits back in the fifties and sixties in saloon car racing and they also competed successfully in many rallies. In Australia, David McKay won the 1960 Australian Touring car Championship driving a 3.4 Mk1 and Bill Pitt won the 1961 Australian Touring Car Championship in a similar model.

Offered here is a particularly fine example, which was delivered new to Australia.
The car has documented history dating back to 1964 since when it remained in one family until returning to the UK three years ago.

The car was used until 1978, whereupon it was laid up and carefully stored until 1992, when a 14-year restoration began by the motor engineer nephew of the long-term owner. The original 2.4 engine was replaced by a 3.4 ‘S’ Type unit and disc brakes were fitted. As the car had benefited from residing in a warm climate, the coachwork had remained in exceptional condition, however, the interior trim had faded, so this was replaced with the exact colour leather as original and the carpets and headlining were also renewed at great expense.

The car is one of the best Mk1 models we have seen and warrants close inspection. It is sure to please the most fastidious enthusiast. On the road, the car feels sure footed and accelerates briskly with the automatic gearbox changing very smoothly. Finished in Jaguar Old English White with dark blue leather trim.

A rare opportunity to acquire a really excellent classic Jaguar saloon that must surely appreciate in the coming years.
