Sellers description

1948 Jaguar Mk IV 3 ½ Litre Sports Saloon

Registration Number: 245 YUS
Chassis Number: 612575
Engine Number: S2840
Price: £39750

This Jaguar 3 ½ Litre left the production line in April 1948 and on the 5th May, it was exported to Australia and sold to its first owner by Brylaw Motors. The Jaguar also resided in Japan and Singapore before being repatriated to the UK in 2012. Limited information on the motor car’s time overseas has been retained, although it had clearly been well cared for during that period.

A professional respray was carried out in 2013, apparently due to the fading of the original paintwork, but we understand the body was in sound and solid condition. The current custodian purchased the Jaguar through DVCA in 2014; the elegant motor car drives as one would expect and has been scrupulously maintained for the last eleven years by mechanical specialists including latterly Sigma Engineering.

The sunroof is in working order and most of the tool kit is present. The leather upholstery is good, as are the wood cappings and dashboard.

The vendor has enjoyed the motor car locally in Dorset and also on a few lengthier club runs, including an infamous trip to the Windsor Jaguar Festival, where it was photographed for the July 2017 Jaguar Enthusiast Magazine, and filmed for Sky News, with Prince Edward inspecting a temporary repair to the carburettor linkage, utilising a twig from the Royal hedge! (The carb linkage problem has of course since been rectified!)

In overall smart condition, the Jaguar is not necessarily a concours queen, but is in very good, well maintained, usable order and offers comfort, space and power for the modern motorist.

The history file contains invoices dating back to 1988, export and import documentation, MOT test certificates, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, a copy factory service manual, correspondence and the V5C registration certificate.
