Here is something you don’t see very often, a Jaguar E-Type that could be used every day. It’s not a concourse example but it is a good one that drives well and looks the part. One big thing about it that is very important is that it has power steering, which means it has the smaller steering wheel making it more accessible and easier to drive. It was mostly the US cars that had power steering, but for some reason this was specified with it from new. This Jaguar is finished in dark blue with black leather, has great chrome and is sat on a lovely set of wire wheels. This great example is further enhanced by having a Webasto-style sunroof, which is a great thing to have.
According to HPi, it is declared registered in the UK 12/11/1970 but on an ‘L’ plate whereas it should be on a ‘J’. Being a Series 2, it was finished in late 1970, as the Series 3 was around then. We have looked into it as best we can and the information we have tells us that it was built as a RHD car with power steering around October 1970. It could possibly have gone to another RHD country from new and then back again in 1972, hence the ‘L’ plate, or it could be a mistake on behalf of the DVLA, which do happen from time to time. However, please check into this and satisfy yourself. The HPi also tells us that the E-Type was originally white and had a colour change in 1982. Our vendor has owned it since 2019 and has enjoyed using and driving it.
The history is lovely and gives you an indication into how well it has been looked after. It has a large amount of invoices and receipts, as well as a huge amount of older MOTs which sit very well with the current MOT valid until August 2025 even though it doesn’t need one. This again tells you that it has been cherished. It comes with a great set of photographs through the ages, lots of hand written notes detailing service history, and even a copy of some sale invoices when it has changed hands. We even have a set of workshop manuals direct from Jaguar and even the spare keys - how good is that?
As ever an E-Type at this price range is a steal and would lead you to think it is not perfect. As with all classic cars, there is always something to do. From a visibility point of view, it is displaying some cracks and crazing on the paintwork, so some would have it re-painted, but our vendor chose not to and just enjoyed it for what it is - a very useable E-Type. The world needs to see more E-Types on the road and this could be one of them. This is definitely a great opportunity to get yourself a very important and cool piece of British motoring history.
