  • Unbelievable condition, one of the best
  • Huge amount of history
  • Heritage certificate
  • Stunning in every way - a work of art

When people say possibly the best on the market, that’s fine, but this just might be the best on the market!

Here we have a stunning Jaguar E-Type Series 1 from 1965 - a beautiful example finished in the very rare colour of Primrose yellow with contrasting black leather and the manual gearbox, possibly the perfect combination. This Jaguar was originally sent to the US and was distributed by Jaguar Cars New York and supplied to a Mr D.H. Hayselden of Honolulu, Hawaii. We know this because we have a Heritage certificate from Jaguar and another one from the Jaguar Daimler Trust, both of which also confirm the specification and the colour. It was originally Primrose and still is, although there are some photographs in the history file showing a car in blue which could possibly be this one at some point in its life. The HPi tells us that it came into the UK in 2011 and has had no previous owners since then. Interestingly, the Heritage certificate also tells us that it was a personal export back in 1965 and originally registered on ‘DWK817C’. It was also in LHD configuration, but is now RHD after its restoration.

The history is sublime with details going back to when the car was in the US - it even has its US plates with it - right up to date with a huge amount of invoices and receipts showing many thousands spent on parts to get it to what we see before us now. There are no invoices for the labour, the reason being is that it was rebuilt for the owner of a classic car restoration business over a period of time and he carried out the work himself. We don’t think he wanted to add up the man hours, as it would probably upset him greatly but we estimate he must have well over £120,000 invested, and that’s on top of the original purchase price. As many people will tell you, restoring a car is a labour of love and never an opportunity to make any money and the next owner is always the one who benefits.

The vendor has supplied a very brief snapshot of some of the parts replaced which include lower bonnet front section, both front wings, bonnet hinge panel, picture frame, bonnet mount frame, inner and outer sills, complete floor, centre X member, both inner rear arches, both rear wings, both doors, boot floor, rear panel, both rear lower quarters, and both pillar panels. Then there’s the engine and gearbox parts, which included the engine and gearbox fully rebuilt, complete fuel system, diff and axle assembly rebuild, new loom, new uprated starter and alternator, new uprated radiator and fan, new complete suspension, new complete brake system, new battery, complete new interior and a complete set of rubbers. Again, this is just a snapshot of some of the many new parts that has gone into this amazing car. The appearance is as new, the interior is fantastic, and the underside is as good as the rest. It’s always hard to describe a car as the perfect example, but this Jaguar is pretty close.

The vendor informs us that it is matching numbers and is a very reluctant sale for two reasons - one is that it is simply stunning and something that anyone would be sad to part with and the other is the amount of money and time poured into this Jaguar. We really encourage you to see this amazing piece of British motoring history. If you want possibly the best for your collection, this may well be the one to have. It is stunning in every way with a fantastic history, great colour, RHD and matching numbers. Does it really get any better?
