Sellers description
1938 Riley 12/4 Six-Light Kestrel
A thoroughly pleasing example of the beautifully proportioned six-light Riley 12/4 Kestrel, this car is particularly rare being one of the final series and differing from earlier models by the slatted radiator grill and lack of louvres on the bonnet sides, along with the straight bumpers. The car has been owned by several Riley enthusiasts who have improved it in recent years and it now presentes extremely well as an older restoration. It is fitted with the manual three speed overdrive gearbox, however, the gearbox has recentlhy been rebuilt, dispensing with the overdrive and now has a higher rear axle ratio. This format is very pleasing to drive.
The BRG paintwork is extremely good and the upholstery is largely original and extremely good.
We took this car on a 50 mile journey this week and it drove as one would expect a good Riley 12/4 to behave.
Documentation includes a Buff RF60 log book dating back to 1953 and numerous bills along with information on the recent gear box rebuild.
Rarely do Six light Kestrels become available and this example is most appealing and retains its original registration number.
