  • Race / track prepared Metro
  • Uprated 1330cc engine
  • 4-speed straight cut gearbox
  • Comes with Brian James trailer

This special Metro was originally a 1986 Austin Metro City 998cc finished in black - and it is now very different as you can see!

It was built by the vendor in the 1990s, specifically for MG Car Club / MG Metro Cup track days and hill climbs using the basic shell with a number of necessary upgrades including the fitting of a roll cage, racing seat, minimal instrumentation, straight cut gearbox and upgraded A series engine.

The engine of the Metro is of course the beating heart and the owner has confirmed the following specification:

  • 1330cc
  • Central oil pick up
  • STR930 Cam (possibly Piper)
  • Roller rockers (Mini Spares)
  • Block skimmed
  • Head skimmed
  • Short pushrods

There is a Dyno print out from 2007 when the engine power (corrected) was rated at 117.2hp at 96mph - which given the weight of less than a tonne means that this is a fast little Metro.

Other fitments include a 45 Carb (Weber), Janspeed exhaust, modified radiator, straight cut close ratio gearbox (race spec), uprated drop gears and bearing (MED), uprated 4 pin diff (no LSD), and an alloy fuel tank with return. The MG sports a roll cage as well. Instrumentation is sparse but functional.

The shell appears to be solid, and it sits on MG Metro Turbo 13 inch alloys with matching Yokohama racing tyres all round. A spare wheel comes with the car plus a set of colour coded bumpers.

The Hydrogas suspension has individualised and GAZ dampers feature plus an adjustable rear anti-roll bar.

Please bear in mind that the Metro is not road legal at present (although there is a V5C) and hence if you were looking at returning it to the road, you will have to satisfy yourself as regards what was required to comply with the latest DVLA requirements.

In a similar vein, the Metro was last raced some years ago (although it has been started regularly) and again a review of the latest safety requirements would need to be undertaken to ensure compliance with the latest guidance. A copy of the Hickford Construction Ltd MG Metro Cup regulations is available in the file, plus a picture of the Metro taking part in a race. There is also a print out of the result of a race at Cadwell Park in 2009 (finished in 6th place).

A Brian James double axle trailer comes with the Metro, which appears in good condition. A spare wheel for the trailer is inside the Metro.

Overall, this is a great starting point for someone to enjoy track days and hill climbs at a considerable saving compared to having to build your own car and source a suitable trailer.
