The July 2025 Car Auction
1980 Austin Maxi 1750 L
No Reserve - Tidy and usable example of this classic British family car
Buyer's Premium: 12.50% of hammer with a minimum charge of £150.00 plus VAT
Here we have a great opportunity to buy a slice of British motoring history - the Austin Maxi. The car that possibly changed the way we thought about family cars with a hatchback rather than the traditional estate cars of the time, and one that was way ahead of its time. A little-known fact about the Maxi is that it was the first British family segment car that had a 5-speed gearbox and 5 doors as standard.
This example is finished in Beige with brown velour trim and tan carpets. The HPi tells us that it may have been grey at some point and had a colour change, but if it has, it has been done well. For a car that is 45 years old, it looks well and is tidy. The odometer is only showing 54k miles, although we have no way of knowing if that is correct or not but it could be, so please have a look and make up your own mind.
It comes with its original instruction and operating books along with original sales information, which is nice to have - plus a few copies of the Maxi owners club magazine.
The Maxi is correctly registered as historic as as such is tax and MOT exempt, although the existing MOT only ran out in March this year.
Ideal for the show season and would be superb at the Festival of the Unexceptional - so dont miss out on this No Reserve Maxi.
