Offered here is a range-topping 1972 Ford Capri 3000E that has been in the care of the same family from new. A rare, UK supplied, manual model that is still largely in original specification.

Although a fastback coupé, Ford wanted the Capri Mk I to be affordable for a broad spectrum of potential buyers. To help achieve that, it was available with a variety of engines with the British and German factories producing different line-ups. The continental model used the Ford Taunus V4 engine in 1.3, 1.5 and 1.7-litre engine capacities, whilst the British versions were powered by the Ford Kent straight-four in 1.3 and 1.6-litre form. The Ford Essex V4 engine 2.0L (British built) and Cologne V6 2.0 L (German built) served as initial range-toppers. At the end of the year, new sports versions were added: the 2300 GT in Germany, using a twin-choke carburettor with 125bhp, and in September 1969 the 3000 GT in the UK, with the Essex V6 generating 138bhp. The range continued to be broadened, with another 3.0-litre variant, the 3000E, introduced from the British plant in March 1970, offering "more luxurious interior trim". Although the 3000GT was seen as the sportiest of the MkIs, the equally powerful 3000E with its impressive specification became the most aspirational of the entire range.

This example would benefit from a cosmetic tidy up inside and out. The paint has now lost its shine and the offside rear arch is suffering from corrosion, a new panel is supplied with the car. Inside, the green seats are in lovely condition and simply belies the age of the car. The sun visors will need reattaching though. This 3000E has been sat for a while, the engine appears to be lumpy when the car is cold, however, once warmed up the engine sounds very sweet and pulls well on the road. Due to the fact this Capri has been stood for a while, we would recommend some sympathetic recommissioning before being used on long journeys. This is a rare UK supplied, manual 3000E, that does require a little bit of love but there is plenty of scope to be used and improved.
