1968 Jaguar Mk II 3.4 litre Historics Classic and Sportscar Auctions Ltd. Ascot Racecourse, United Kingdom

Auction : £

Sellers description

  • Desirable 3.4 litre engine
  • Manual with overdrive
  • Power Steering

Synonymous with the swinging `60s and the hit TV Series Inspector Morse, the Mk. II was undoubtedly the most admired Saloon to emanate from Jaguar's hallowed Browns Lane factory. Featuring notably slimmer roof pillars than its Mk. I predecessor, the immortal Mk. II was as airy on the inside as it was elegant on the outside. The interior was quintessentially British with its sumptuous leather-covered seats, polished wood facia and door cappings, extensive instrumentation and impressive row of auxiliary toggle switches. These cars punched well above their weight. Equipped with either a 3.4 litre or 3.8 engine, the Jaguar was capable of sprinting to 60mph in as little as 8.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 125mph - small wonder that it was the first choice of both bank robbers and the police of the period!

This lovely Old English White over black leather trim example is an older restoration and still presents extremely well today. The wood facia and door cappings within the very well-appointed cabin are as new and upon the turn of a key the car fires up and runs very well indeed. First registered on 22nd May 1968, as detailed by an original buff logbook, this example spent many years registered as 1066 AW only to return to its original registration number 1995. The history file accompanying this 3.4 litre manual with overdrive example contains many old MoT test certificates, tax discs and registration documents all detailing the history of the car and presented in a leather wallet. Within the history file is a valuation by M&C Wilkinson stating that, in 2017, the value of this car was £30,000. The car has a current MoT test certificate valid until October 2020, a number of old service reports, receipts and correspondence from the Jaguar Drivers Club which can also be found in the file. Less than 10,000 miles ago the car benefitted from a new clutch assembly, new springs and shock absorbers and is offered with a Jaguar book pack and owner’s manual.

Sitting well on its correct 72 spoke wire wheels, with desirable power steering this a very good example of the desirable 3.4 manual with overdrive Jaguar Mk. II, with prices increasing for good examples of these iconic British cars viewing is highly recommended.
