The Ferguson 35, also known as the “Massey Ferguson 35” or “FE35,” holds a prominent place in agricultural history as one of the most influential and widely used tractors of the mid-20th century. Introduced in 1956 by the Ferguson Company shortly before its merger with Massey-Harris to form Massey Ferguson, the FE35 represented a significant advancement in tractor design. It featured the revolutionary Ferguson System of three-point linkage, which dramatically improved the efficiency and safety of implements. Initially powered by a Standard Motor Company petrol engine, later models included diesel variants that increased power and fuel economy. Known for its reliability, versatility, and ease of use, the Ferguson 35 became a global workhorse on farms from the UK to Australia and beyond. Its success helped solidify Massey Ferguson’s reputation as a leader in agricultural machinery and laid the groundwork for future generations of tractors.
We are pleased to offer this Ferguson FE35 tractor in fetching grey and gold. Don’t confuse this with the hard-worked, tatty examples that are often seen for sale - at some stage it has been restored and, whilst our vendor tells us that he regularly runs it around his farm for fun, it doesn’t look like it has been worked since the restoration. The ID plate has clearly been replaced when the restoration was done and the replacement plate confirms it as an FE35 but hasn’t been stamped with a chassis number, so we are unable to conclusively date it. However, other markings on the chassis and the fitment of the 4-cylinder diesel engine lead us to believe that it is probably a 1957 example, which would have been supplied in grey and gold rather than the more common red. Nevertheless, where there is uncertainty, we would always recommend that you make your own mind up before bidding.
There’s just something cool about old tractors, something that makes the kid in us just want to jump on and drive. This one would be equally at home just pootling around or parked up in your man-cave or she-shed. Offered with no reserve, fulfilling that childhood fantasy may be less costly thank you think!
