- Very much a one off
Now then, here’s something you don’t see very often! A Willys MB Jeep, which has been fully restored to the highest detail with great attention to detail making it as authentic as possible. The vendor tells us that the Jeep was built in 1942, but as with most of these things its war history is unknown. He believes it to be ex-British army, and its first registration as a road vehicle was after its military service is 1949. We have copies of the original buff logbook, as well as the new V5 confirming these details.
The vendor, who is something of a military collector, restored the Jeep three years ago as a “nut and bolt rebuild” trying to use as many of the original parts as he could. The wings are Ford stamped, as they should be, and the engine is also Ford like it should be, although the tail gate is new as the original couldn’t be saved. It has all the relevant identity plates in the right places, and has the T84 gearbox and transfer case, original springs and axles, and original C plates. It has been through the REME rebuild process in the 1950s.
The Jeep is presented today in SAS desert colours, as the vendor thought that it would make it a little different in its appearance. We think that he succeeded as it looks fantastic in every way and very authentic down to its 16 Jerry cans and various ammo bags, first aid kits and all the relevant items it would have had for running around the desert causing havoc. The Jeep has its original registration number issued in 1949, details from DVLA Invicta Military Vehicle Preservation Society, and a collection of photographs showing the indication plates and their locations.
This is definitely something that needs to be seen, with its very high attention to detail and the time and effort that went into its restoration, all of which are very visible upon inspection. We think the vendor has done a splendid job keeping this Jeep on the road for us all to appreciate. The fact that he chose to do it in desert colours makes it very unique and rare. This very cool Jeep is something you could get into and drive straight away.
