Sellers description
1930 Talbot 14/45 Drop Head Coupe
Using an unusually high compression ratio and a high 4,500rpm rev limit, the result was an unusually smooth unit which delivered a strong performance for its size, with almost 60mph being obtained when road tested by the motoring correspondent of 'The Times'.
Built by Clement Talbot Limited in a factory in Ladbrook Grove in North Kensington, a variety of coachwork styles were available, mostly by Darracq - a subsidiary of STD based in Fulham. This charmingly original factory DHC was delivered new in Leicestershire in 1930. The history file includes no fewer than three buff logbooks, which detail every owner from new! There were lots - particularly during the 1950s when it seemed to pass to a new owner every couple of months…quite possibly due to petrol rationing? An invoice to its then owner who lived near Malvern from Talbot guru John Bland dates from 1957, the car ending up with Keith Knight who purchased a 'job-lot' of Talbots back in the 1970s. The current owner acquired it from Keith in 1990 and has loved it and looked after it since. Fitted with a correct dynastart, it is described as a ready starter and is in very sound order. The folding hood works easily, the windows roll up and down as they should - even the dickie seat is fully trimmed.
A proper Vintage car of the old school, it appeals on many levels having been unspoilt by over-restoration or neglect. We love it.
