1929 Austin 12/4 Two Seater Tourer with Dickey

Throughout the 1920’s and into the early ‘30’s, one of the most popular styles of coachwork was the two-seater with dickey seat and most manufacturers offered a model of this style.

The Austin Twelve, which was a very successful model during this period was a most attractive car when fitted with this style of body. A number of Austins were available with coachwork by Mulliner, or Gordon of Sparkbrook, but the standard Austin body was of exceptional quality and boasted a very large luggage area when the dickey seat was not in use.

This particular example has been known to us for some years. It was sympathetically restored over a period of time and is presented today in fine condition in all respects.

Correct in all details, the only alteration has been a conversion to coil and distributor ignition. Finished in dark blue and black as original, the interior trim has been renewed in best quality hide and the weather equipment has also been renewed.

The car was first registered in January 1930, but is almost certain to have been built late in 1929 as the change over from nickel plating to chrome fittings was taking place at this period and some cars built at that time including this one, feature both types of plating.

With the support of the Vintage Austin Register, these cars enjoy an enduring popularity and are easy to maintain and have always been noted for their reliability and sound design.

There is a considerable file of information, which includes a handwritten notebook detailing work carried out over the past ten years, along a copy of Workshop Instructions for the Austin 12, 16 and 20hp models.
