1925 Vauxhall 14/40 ‘LM’ Princeton Tourer

The Vauxhall 14/40 made its debut at the 1921 London Motor Show, with the first deliveries reaching the public the following year. Designed by Clarence King, this new model featured a 2.3 litre 4-cylinder engine mounted in-unit with a three-speed gearbox. 

Six models were listed, including two and four door Tourers, three styles of saloon, plus Landaulette and Coupe models.

1924 saw the introduction of the improved ‘LM’ Series, with a higher compression engine now developing 40 bhp. A four-speed gearbox was now fitted, as were wire wheels in place of the previous disc type. As with the larger Vauxhall models, the 14/40 was much favoured in the Antipodes, as well as many other parts of the Empire where road conditions demanded a sturdily built motor car.

 The 14/40 Princeton Tourer we offer here is of 1925 manufacture and is of very smart all-round appearance having been restored some years ago. Previously supplied by ourselves during 2010, it has been used sparingly and has only covered around 2000 miles since. During the present ownership work carried out has included the fitment of 5 new Blockley tyres, overhaul of the magneto, whilst a replacement cylinder block has been fitted, with new pistons and liners, valve guides and valves etc. The steering box has also been rebuilt.

In all, a most pleasing Vintage motor car, which should prove ideal for a variety of events. It is offered with an original Driver’s Handbook, extensive technical notes and a rare original sales brochure.
