Offered for sale for the first time since its creation in the 1980's, this fantastic Pilain Special. Offering its next owner endless rallying, touring, track and VSCC possibilities, the car is power by a 16/20HP 3.1 Litre T-Head engine. The car presents beautifully and is surely a head turning addition to any collection at a price unmatched for a car of this quality.

Societe Des Automobiles Pilain was founded in 1902 by Francois Pilain and was based in Lyon. The Manufacturer produced premium French automobiles from 1902 - 1920. Not to be confused with his nephews company, also producing cars under the Rolland-Pilain name, Francois had his brand SAP producing a chassis a day after 1906. Sadly in 1908 the company went into liquidation, it was however permitted to continue production without Pilain himself at the helm. SAP started out by offering both twin and four cylinder engines, however stopped production of the twin cylinders after 1904. By 1906 the manufacturer was offering cars with engines of 4000cc-8600cc although another 1900cc engine was added in 1909. SAP were lauded for their meticulous construction, quality and finish and therefore were very expensive compared to rivals of its day. Very little is known about how many examples are surviving.

This example was found and shipped back from 'The Jura' where it was discovered with the chassis cut in half, driving a saw bench. Once back in the UK in 1979, its current owner realised his dream ambition of creating his very own unique special based upon an image he procured of aviation pioneer James Valentines with his 16/20 Pilain (see images). The car was eventually restored by James Gunn after many years of accumulating parts and accessories. Full photographic restoration images and invoices are provided with the sale of the vehicle.

Described as ready to go but in need of light recommissioning, this Pilain Special offers a truly unique motoring experience.
