Lost Treasure

Valuable things are treasured, as such often disappear, artworks, antiques, ancient artifacts and jewelry are all subject to be acquired and hidden from the public gaze to exist in a private collections for a privalled few. Rare and important motorcars are the new 'treasure', now collectors, not motorists crave their selected vechicle s to add to stables like prized stations, investments as well as pleasures. Other cars have been misplaced or forgotten, all are mysteries that many classic car enthusiasts want to solve.

James Bond’s iconic Aston Martin DB5 disappeared over a quarter of a century ago during the third 007 film, Goldfinger. 25 years after the Aston Martin’s disappearance, it has been reported that the original car has been found after rumours of sightings occurred in the Middle East. Investigators believe that the model is part of a private collection and currently worth £18.2 million ($25 million).

But the 007 Aston Martin isn’t the only famous classic car to disappear without a trace, inspired and playing detective, Select Car Leasing have mapped the last known locations of 20 of the world’s most famous missing cars. The last confirmed sighting of the DB5 was a Florida airport hangar, hours before vanishing with only rumoured sightings ever since. The DB5 isn’t the only car destined for stardom to have disappeared.

The 1912 Renault Type CB Coupé de Ville was the only automobile and is assumed to have never been recovered from the Atlantic Ocean. A replica was featured in the film adaption.

Another notable motor to go missing was the Oldsmobile Golden Rocket. Dubbed as one of the most radical designs of the Motorama period, no one knows if the car still exists today. It was a common practice for General Motors to destroy concept cars after use, but no records exist of this taking place, leaving suspicions as to whether the radical motor still exists.
