EXTERIOR
To celebrate 80 years of the MG brand saw a Limited-Edition release of just 1600 MG 80th Anniversary TF cars, available in three special colours and all built to high specification. The UK received just 500 examples and car number 1351 of 1600 boasts outstanding credentials being a one owner car with just 3,193 miles from new. Entirely commensurate with these credentials, the factory original Goodwood Green Pearlescent paintwork, (Code HQM), is pristine throughout and sparkles with no imperfections worthy of noting other than a couple of touched in frontal stone chips. The hood is also perfectly preserved with no fading or deterioration to the plastic rear screen. All trim sections, glass, lights and badges are as new, and the supplying dealer number plates and tax disc holder remain fitted. Garaged from new and used strictly in dry conditions the underside, wheel arch liners and door apertures are spotless. This is a truly exceptional example of one of the rarest and highly collectable in the MGF and TF range with added heritage.
INTERIOR
The Black Alcantara & Tan leather upholstery, (Code PVF), having covered just 3,193 miles is beautifully preserved. The flawless Tan dashboard houses fully functioning switchgear and original stereo. Real wood accents to the chunky leather steering wheel, gearknob and handbrake grip are traditional MG and all touch points show no wear. Over mats have protected the carpet since new and the owner even kept the dealership paper mats from when he collected the car in the showroom are present! A surprisingly large rear boot is pristine and the spotless front compartment displays PDI dabs and all factory plates and stickers fully intact with no patina. The Limited-Edition badge between the seat proudly declares this car as number 1351 of 1600.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original four-cylinder 1796cc 16-valve all alloy engine produces 136bhp at 6750rpm and 165Nm torque at 5000rpm enabling a top speed of 127mph and 0-60 in just 8.2 seconds. The mid-mounted engine and rear wheel drive configuration display all the correct sports car credentials to ensure optimum driving enjoyment and exhilaration! The short throw sports ratio five speed gearbox completes the package and to drive a super-low mileage and unmolested example is something many MG TF owners can now only imagine.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Usually a very expensive option yet standard on the 80th Anniversary edition are the 11-spoke Shadow Chrome finish alloy wheels which are immaculate with perfect centre caps. Those seeking total originality will be pleased to see even fragile paper dot stickers still attached to each wheel face and all tyres are factory Goodyear Eagle F1 fitment including the optional extra full size spare alloy which has never seen the road. Further standard specification equipment for the 80th Anniversary edition included anti-lock assistance as well as uprated front disc brakes and red callipers. Stunning.
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by MG Main Dealer, Paramount Swansea, this TF was registered on the 31st August 2004 to the first and only owner, Mr Jones, who bought the car to celebrate his 50th Birthday. Wanting to preserve this celebratory purchase, the expensive Supagard protection treatment option was taken out, the document for which is with the car. A Certificate of Authenticity signed by Peter Stevens, Chief Designer MG, confirms this example to be number 1351 from a global production of just 1600 Limited Edition models and 500 for the UK. The car has remained with the only owner since new and has formed part of a collection including further classic MG cars and a Jaguar E-Type.
Servicing and maintenance has been documented and a specialist invoice in the history file for £929.89 in 2023 refers to a full service and change of cambelt and water pump. The original handbook, manuals and service book are present in the MG wallet and there are two original keys with remote fobs and dealership keyrings. A file of paperwork includes the collectable and valuable 80th Anniversary TF release brochure. This pristine MG TF is without question one of the best-preserved original examples in existence with provenance to match. Firmly one for the MG connoisseur.
