  • Standard factory specification
  • Original book pack with stamped service book containing 17 stamps
  • Attractive colour / trim combination
  • Becoming rare and collectable in 16 valve form

We are very pleased to offer one of the world’s most iconic cars, a Volkswagen Golf GTi 16v with 3 doors and finished in White with the standard 'Rainbow' cloth trim and the correct BBS cross spoke alloy wheels, factory sunroof and period music system.

It was supplied new to its first owner Grant Thornton by MAN F.C. Purser Limited in London in October 1990 (PDi stamp present in the service book).

Whilst we don't have many invoices on file for work completed on the Golf over the years, we do have the benefit of a stamped service book with 17 service stamps present, plus an invoice for a service and MOT in February 2025. The vendor also tells us that four new tyres were fitted in 2022 (receipt on file), and that he has had the BBS alloys refurbished during his tenure.

We also have the benefit of a few early MOT certificates, and the DVLA MOT summary would appear to back up the mileage presently showing of 150,000 miles.

The paintwork is clean with minimal marks and there is some minor bubbling along the bottom edge of the driver’s door. The interior is also clean and tidy - there is wear on the driver's seat bolster which is common with cars of this age and mileage.

The Volkswagen Golf GTi is the most elegant and complete hot hatch of its day and a true icon of the 80s and 90s. Even today in its latest form, the Volkswagen Golf GTi symbolises everything one would need in a car. By the time the twin-cam 16V GTi model made an appearance in 1985, its reputation for build quality, reliability and the absolute excellence of engineering placed it as one of the most desirable cars within its price bracket. This hardiness and durability have meant that a fair number have survived the decades and continue to serve its loyal following until today.

This is a rare survivor from the 1990s, being that it is factory original and is in lovely unmolested condition. It is getting very hard to find one of these that has not been “messed” with and that can only be a good thing when thinking about the future value of these iconic cars. Driven to our premises over 100 miles, this is a true find and deserves to go to a good home that will continue the upkeep and originality.
