The Nissan Z32 300ZX was introduced in 1989 as the fourth generation of the Z-car lineage, succeeding the Z31. Designed with a sleek, aerodynamic body and advanced technology, it was available in both naturally aspirated and twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 (VG30DE and VG30DETT) engines. The twin-turbo model produced 300 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful Japanese sports cars of its time. It featured four-wheel steering (HICAS), a driver-focused cockpit, and a refined suspension system, setting a new standard for performance and handling. Sold under the Fairlady Z name in Japan, the Z32 was well-received globally, particularly in the U.S., where it competed with sports cars like the Toyota Supra and Chevrolet Corvette. However, due to rising costs and changing market demands, Nissan discontinued the Z32 in 2000 (1996 in North America). It remains a cult classic among enthusiasts, celebrated for its performance, timeless design, and tuning potential.
We are pleased to offer this 1989 Nissan Fairlady Z in black with black / red interior. Initially, believed to be a Japanese market car (hence right hand drive), it was imported into the UK in 1999. Since arriving here it has had 6 owners. It comes with a decent bundle of invoices for parts and maintenance going back to 1999. Most recently, it had a new clutch master cylinder in 2023. There is a certificate of installation for a Clifford Concept 300 alarm. The odometer reads in miles having been converted in 2006/7.
At some point, the car has been fitted with a widebody kit and a set of 19” Team Dynamic alloys, giving it a wonderful, aggressive stance but still being relatively subtle compared to other modified Japanese metal. It’s fitted with a Cobra Sport stainless steel exhaust system which, as well as sounding great, adds to the aesthetic with four square tailpipes. Apparently, Cobra guarantees these systems for 25 years. For those sunny days, it has the desirable T-bar top keeping the structural rigidity but adding some wind in the hair. The inside is a striking riot of red and black. The seats appear to have been recovered with embroidered Z’s on the headrests. Japanese market cars are usually better specified than UK cars and this example has electric seats, air conditioning and cruise control.
The car comes with V5C, old MOTs, bundle of invoices, 4-wheel alignment sheet, dyno sheets from 2001, some old registration / tax documents and two keys / alarm fobs.
If you like modified Japanese metal, the appeal of this car is undeniable. There are some rough edges that could be improved but this is a car that will cause a stir at any JDM car meet.
