The Citroën 2CV, also known as the "Deux Chevaux" is an iconic French automobile that emerged in the aftermath of World War II. Designed by Pierre-Jules Boulanger, the 2CV was envisioned as a simple, rugged car capable of transporting rural French farmers and their goods across rough terrain. Launched in 1948 at the Paris Motor Show, the 2CV featured an air-cooled, two-cylinder engine, and its distinctive design, including its corrugated metal body, set it apart from other cars of its time. Over the years, the 2CV gained popularity not only in France but also internationally, becoming a symbol of practicality and affordable transportation. Its production spanned over four decades, with various models and adaptations produced, solidifying its status as an enduring automotive icon.

We are pleased to offer this 1984 Citroen 2CV6 Charleston in Rouge Delage / Black with grey interior. First registered in August 1984, the car has had only 3 former keepers. The eagle-eyed will have noted the Special badge on the boot, however, the HPI report records the colour as red / black with no colour changes indicating that it is an original Charleston. It is also fitted with the large speedometer cluster that you would expect to find on a Charleston. Nevertheless, if you would like to satisfy yourself as to the car’s identity, we’d love you to come and view it at our purpose-built facility here in Cheshire.

The first question we always field on 2CVs is whether it has been fitted with a galvanised chassis and with this car the answer is yes. Renowned 2CV specialists, Citroen Workshop in Southport, fitted a Moto Mek galvanised chassis in 1997. Another upgrade we like to see on a 2CV is an electronic ignition conversion and a Lumenition Optronic Ignition system has been added at some point. The car comes with a big sheaf of invoices going back to the late 1980s showing that it has been well looked after over the years.

Charlestons are much rarer than the more familiar Dolly special edition and the two-tone paint job with matching red steel wheels remains eye-catching. There are a few areas of bodywork corrosion here and there and we would suggest bidders familiarise themselves with the further photographs provided. Nevertheless, it remains perfectly presentable with scope for improvement. The roof looks quite new and appears free from any obvious damage. Inside, the seat covers are clean and haven’t discoloured but are a little baggy.

The car comes with V5C, current and previous MOTs, bundle of invoices for parts and maintenance, some information booklets and 2 keys. The vendor is also including a set of 4 spare doors, painted in white and with glass.

The 2CV is finally being appreciated as the icon it is (possibly helped along by a certain C Harris, formerly of Top Gear, being a big fan and owner) and prices are reflecting that. Offered with no reserve, this car represents a great opportunity to pick up a 2CV with some desirable upgrades that can be driven as is and / or improved cosmetically over time.
