An astounding and original Austin Rover Maestro 1.3L with just 6,712 miles.
EQUIPMENT
Twin tone paintwork, bolt-on wings, side rubbing strips, laminated windscreen, childproof rear locks, locking fuel cap, internally adjustable door mirrors, slide/tilt sunroof with louvred screen, digital clock, illuminated cigar lighter, manual choke with warning lamp, heated rear window, rear wash/wipe, height adjustable seatbelts, rear seatbelts, twin swivelling sun visors with docket pockets, two speed wipers with intermittent and flick-wipe, lockable glovebox, rake-adjustable front seats, coat hooks, coin tray, ash tray. Dealer accessories; Mud flaps.
EXTERIOR
An almost inconceivable survivor, this stunning and original Austin Maestro 1.3L is finished in its factory coating of Oyster Beige over Tempest Grey Matt, (Code RWB). The paintwork is utterly incredible throughout with a glossy uniform shine and the correct matt finish to the lower Tempest Grey. All factory panels are pin straight and even the closest scrutiny reveal nothing other than miniscule imperfections, utterly insignificant and left untreated to uphold total factory finish. Originality seekers will be pleased to see supplying Austin Rover dealer number plates and tax disc holder, which even has the 1988 disc still in it! The underside boasts a pleasing absence of excess applied underseal allowing easy inspection of its preserved state. Guaranteed to draw much fascination at any classic car show, this really is very special.
INTERIOR
A virtually showroom fresh interior entirely commensurate with the 6,712 miles covered, this Maestro even retains the nostalgia evoking Austin Rover scent! The Box and Plain Velvet upholstery in Flint, (Code LCG), is wonderfully preserved with taut seats and matching door card coverings spotlessly clean. The carpets are immaculate as is the headlining with no loosening or sagging whatsoever. The glass is factory fitment with all etching and stereo security labels intact. The dashboard has no cracks and all gauges and equipment is operational with the exception of the original stereo cassette which powers up and illuminates but only crackles. All touch points such the steering wheel, gear knob and interior handles show a total lack of wear found only on uber-low mileage examples. A beautiful and deliciously retro interior.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The renown 1.3 litre A-plus engine needs little introduction and is legendary for its driveability and excellent economy, this low mileage example being no exception. The 62bhp feels spirited, is quiet and offers very low maintenance costs. Performance figures are quoted at a top speed of 97mph and 0-60mph in 12.5secs. The unspoilt engine bay is very clean and still has all original stickers, plates and strut top chassis stamp clearly visible as well as factory wax and panel seam sealer. The five-speed gear box is precise and light, a great combination.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Steel rims wearing the correct original full width 13in wheel trims are in superb order with just one trim showing a few markings. Matching brand 155/70 R13 tyres were fitted new in 2019 and have covered approximately 600 miles. The original Dunlop SP6 spare tyre still with coloured banding has never seen the road and sits in a pristine boot area which also has the polystyrene mould with unused jack and wheel brace. The diagonally split dual-circuit hydraulic brakes with servo assistance offer ample stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 4th January 1989, the supplying Austin Rover Main Dealer was Mann Egerton in Morden, Surrey. The first owner, Mr Norris, cherished the car for 28 years until 2017 and there have been just two further British Leyland Austin Rover enthusiast custodians since. The large history file is neatly presented with invoices for servicing and maintenance dating back to when the car was new as well as comprehensive MOT certificates from the very first in 1992 to warrant the remarkably low mileage. The original owner’s information wallet houses the full book pack including service book as well as both sets of keys with a dealer fob. A sales brochure from point of sale is also included. A full service was carried out in July 2023.
In prized care with British Leyland Austin Rover enthusiasts from new, this example is a rare and preserved part of Maestro history. Gracing classic car shows will always be a topic of interesting conversation and draw many secret admirers!
