1988 Toyota Celica GT 2.0 – A rare 80s Convertible
Having only had 4 former keepers, this is a good example that has only covered around 80k miles and also comes with a MOT till June 2026. This example has had a lot of money spent on the car, such as a new hood, and some recent engine work. In the vendor’s ownership, the car has had a new clutch (receipt present), water pump, battery, belts, oil inc. plugs and filters etc, and the Targa section insert was recovered with the same material. There are invoices present for most of the work that was carried out.
The car remains original and presents well for its age. However, with all classic cars it isn’t perfect, nor is it concourse. The car overall, presents well with some areas of improvements, such as some rust in the boot and windscreen, as well as other little areas of rust here and there. But other than this, the paintwork presents well. Due to the car remaining original, you will notice the number plate could potentially do with being replaced but it is still visible and readable.
The interior looks to be in good condition, with some minor imperfections. The radio does not work and there is a small cigarette burn in the driver’s seat, but the car remains good and it only adds to the nostalgia. The dash has remained good with no cracks, something that’s hard to find in one of these nowadays.
This example comes with a good history folder, which includes very good service history, including a stamped service book (11 stamps). The most recent service was carried out at 79,907 miles. There are also some tax discs, owner’s manuals, handbooks, and also present is the original bill of sale, whereby it was used as a Toyota dealer’s demonstrator car (whereby the mileage at the time was 40k miles and was sold for £11,000).
The Celica GT is hard to find and are very sought after. They are even rarer in the convertible, due to not being very common in Europe, which makes them very unique as well.
As with all vehicles, we encourage potential buyers to view the vehicle in person and make their own judgement. The team here at Barons, Marchwood, Southampton, will be happy to help and answer questions you may have.
