The Renault 11 was a compact car produced by the French automaker Renault between 1983 and 1989. It was introduced alongside its hatchback counterpart, the Renault 9, with which it shared most mechanical components but featured a more modern five-door hatchback design. The Renault 11 was well-received for its practicality, comfort, and fuel efficiency, making it popular in Europe and other markets. It was offered with a range of engines, including petrol and diesel options, as well as a sportier turbocharged variant known as the Renault 11 Turbo. A facelift in 1986 brought styling updates and improved equipment. The Renault 11 was eventually replaced by the Renault 19 in 1988, marking the end of its production run, though it remained in use in some countries for years afterward.

We are delighted to offer this 1986 Renault 11 1.4 Automatic in blue with grey cloth interior. First registered June 1986 and supplied by West Sussex Motors in Worthing, it represents one of the last Phase 1 pre-facelift cars. The car comes with its original bookpack, including service books with 16 stamps. There are a small number of further invoices to further supplement this and our vendor tells us that he has done an oil and filter change since taking ownership. We don’t have a full set of MOTs going all the way back but there is a good bundle of certificates from 2002 onwards.

It’s fair to say that Renault 11s don’t come up for sale that often, howmanyleft.co.uk recording only 39 currently on the road (of which only 3 are the Auto), but when they do appear few are as nice as this one. Eighties French hatches aren’t known for their robustness, so the condition of this car is a good indicator of careful, loving ownership and makes the low 58,000 miles indicated seem very credible and believable. Externally, it presents very nicely with just a few age-related blemishes. The plastics are nice and it’s always great to see a full set of the correct wheel trims. The interior is equally as nice. The dash is free from any obvious cracks and all those hard-to-get plastic trim pieces appear to be present and correct. The seat fabric has gone a little baggy at the front but appears in good order and the seats themselves are wonderfully soft and cossetting as you might expect from a Gallic car. The headlining is tight and clean. Being picky, there’s is a small area of material that has split on the NSF door card but we would expect that to be a fairly straightforward repair. Again, it’s pleasing to see the original radio / cassette still in place.

The car comes with V5C, current and previous MOTs, various invoices and book pack.

The Renault 11 was probably most famous for its starring role in A View to a Kill, driven to destruction by a Moore-era James Bond, and our vendor has continued the tradition by hiring this one out for some local TV and film work. It would also make a fabulous entry for this year’s Festival of the Unexceptional and would be sure to put a smile on people’s faces. Indeed, it’s this car’s everyday Eighties vibe and lovely condition that are at the heart of its appeal and give it so many potential uses. Offered without reserve, it could well be a lot of car for very little money.
