This lovely Mercedes Benz R107 280SL was purchased new in 1981 as a Diplomatic purchase from Mercedes-Benz and was taken direct to Kenya. It was ordered as UK specification with the extras, such as air conditioning, sump guard, and a kilometre speedo.
After being in Kenya until 1987, it was brought back to the UK and registered as ‘KWS202X’. The car was then brought to the Isle of Man in 2002 by its original owner and registered as ‘FMN849W’. The original owner kept the car for 35 years until the vendor purchased it on 6th September 2016 and became its second owner, registering it as ‘OMN 49’. The car was re-registered as ‘HMN202X’ on 12th March 2024.
Having purchased the car, a number of repairs were undertaken including taking the car to the SL shop where it was treated to a new steering box. In November 2017, the car was entrusted to AMK Engineering for a complete body overhaul plus some additional work, which was completed by May 2018. Since then, the car has been maintained by the vendor, a qualified motor mechanic, and a number of parts invoices are included in the history file.
