We are very pleased to offer this stunning Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint Veloce from 1980 in left hand drive and in stunningly good condition. This very rare Alfasud is one of the best we have seen, finished in a lovely shade of dark blue with beige velour trim and black carpets and complete with yellow headlights. A stunning combination! Having had a full bare shell rebuild, the engine is less than 2,000 miles old and the rest of the car has only been driven 3,000 miles on top of that.
Anyone who is into classic cars will know that very few Alfasuds survived due to their infamous propensity to dissolve in the presence of the merest dampness in the atmosphere. This example has become even rarer and desirable due to this fact. Unless one of these beauties has had a total bare shell rebuild, it will harbour corrosion even if it has lovely shiny paint. However, this one has benefitted from a bare shell restoration and has not been on a damp road since that time. This is a rust-free vehicle and a must for any serious Italian car collector.
First registered in France, the vehicle was owned by a Frenchman and the history features invoices that show other addresses from 1996 to 2005, and some of those from his ownership are from Alfa Romeo. At some point, it passed onto someone else who went on to treat the Alfa to a full body-off rebuild. Photos of the restoration start in 2015 and show it being a truly comprehensive job. It has not seen a wet day since the work was completed. Restoration bills coming from 2017 / 2019 suggest that the bodywork took about 2 years. As far as the vendor can tell, most parts that could be replaced, such as bearings, shock absorbers, brake components, fuel and brake lines etc. have been replaced as well as most other parts on it.
The French MOT equivalent is dated 11.04.2019 and, despite being fully restored, the speedometer reading was 76,860 km. It was privately purchased and imported in 2019 by a professional engineer who had his own hi-tech business in Ipswich, whose working life started as an Alfa Romeo trained technician. Although the engine was running well enough, he rebuilt it in 2020 as it was a little smoky. There are invoices in the history for parts sourced for this job. There are also photographs of the engine build showing it be a thorough, meticulous and professional quality rebuild. The vehicle was also treated to a further respray at Colchester Auto Refinishing, and although there is no receipt, there are photographs.
The previous owner then bought the vehicle and fitted the excellent interior. They completed the paperwork to get it correctly registered as an MOT, Ulez and Road Fund Licence-free vehicle and thus it was first registered in UK in 2021 with the registration ‘MKU497W’. He changed the speedo at 77,575 km for a mph one which was reading 49,657. This means that the Sprint was driven approximately 3,000 miles since its rebuild and since the vendor changed the speedo it has been driven a further 1,700 faultless miles. 14” Alfetta Campagnolo wheels, which are in excellent condition, were fitted and a set of 13” original alloys are available separately along with some other rare spare parts. Various chrome was sourced and fitted including two wing mirrors - rare. The original stereo converted to Bluetooth was fitted and a reconditioned original stereo is available separately if someone wanted to fit an aerial. They also fitted a rare, original Leather rimmed steering wheel and replaced the chrome grille trim and 3 of the 4 headlights are new old stock that they were lucky enough to find.
Paperwork-wise, the Alfa comes with a large collection of invoices and receipts detailing some of the restoration, along with some photographs. There are also a collection of invoices and receipts from its life in France, and we even have the original Alfa handbooks and a lovely certificate of conformation confirming the numbers, colour and build date. If you have any interest in classic Italian cars then this is for you, you will not find another one of this quality at this price.
