This lovely Triumph Dolomite Sprint is in great condition throughout, with a healthy thick history file going back to the early 90s, plus a Heritage Certificate confirming the specification of the car when new and build date.
The invoices on file detail expenditure since the early 90s amounting to approaching £9k and we also have some previous MOT certificates going back to the 90s which indicate that the present mileage showing is correct.
Looking through the invoices, the car has been regularly maintained with numerous parts being replaced or improved. It appears the carbs were overhauled in 2023, a new vinyl roof fitted and a full respray in 2019, chrome work improved in 2016 together with sundry other smaller items changed or replaced over the years. In addition, the vendor also tells us that the engine was rebuilt some 6 years ago with a replacement crankshaft, oil pump, reconditioned cylinder head. Unfortunately, the invoice for this work has been mislaid.
Sitting on a set of attractive Magnesium alloys with matching tyres, the car looks great with a sporting stance. We understand the suspension has been poly bushed, and the Sprint is fitted with adjustable shock absorbers and a sports exhaust
A ‘BMW-eater from Triumph', asserted Motor magazine on the Sprint's launch, pointing out pace able to match that of a BMW 2002 Tii and beat that of an Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV. Power of 127bhp, with just under a tonne to pull, explained the impressive 0-60mph time of 8.4 seconds. Contemporary road tests praised the handling, helped by a limited-slip differential, and loved the comfy cabin with its cloth seats and satin-wood embellishment.
The race proved and award-winning 16-valve 2-litre engine sounds in good health. It starts on the button with the help of the choke. These are spritely little cars, and plenty of fun to drive. Simply a joy to own, with parts readily available, easy to work on and admiration anywhere you go.
