This is a stunning and unbelievable example of the very desirable and collectable Ford Escort 1600 Ghia 4-Door finished in Jupiter red with a black vinyl roof and a fantastic beige interior. This example defies belief, not only in its condition but also its history. We will do our best to try and explain it, but we would really urge you to view it firsthand so you can understand what we are trying to get across.
The Escort was supplied new by Holland Motors (Ford) in Southport on 1/4/1977 to its first owner, a Mr Hammerton of Freshfield, Southport. He kept it for 28 years, of which a great part of that was spent on display at Holland Motors, hence the low mileage of 13,000 miles which the vendor declares as genuine. It was then owned by a Mr Cross of Southport, who is very well known in the area as a car collector but only has the best as this demonstrates - the attention to detail is stunning. We are informed by the vendor that the majority of the paintwork is original, and we also think that is correct. It has had a small amount of paintwork on the front panel, rear panel and under the wheel arches, which is detailed in a photo album showing work carried out. The paperwork, which is vast, states that most of the parts are the original ones but rebuilt to make “perfect”. The vendor even went to the trouble of sourcing a Motorcraft battery to keep the originality, and all the relevant stickers under the bonnet and everywhere else are correct. When the Escort was detailed, the underside was repainted in the body colour and is very well polished, something you don’t get to see very often, but again showing the detail and attention that has been lavished on it.
The paperwork is equally, if not more impressive, with photographs and newspaper articles detailing its many show wins around the country along with a large number of trophies and rosettes. The paperwork carries on with a collection of older V5s from day one. It has only had two previous owners but every time the DVLA issued a new V5 these have been kept and filed accordingly. It comes with original Ford advertising details from the time, its owner’s manual and instruction books, and a service book from Holland Motors confirming them as the suppling dealer and the first owner as well as containing 16 stamps - amazing! This is backed up with some invoices and receipts, and a collection of old MOTs. We even have its original spare keys which include the Ford dealer’s keyring and, something you never see, the ‘Ghia’ key - how rare must that be? As well as being extremely cherished all its life, the Escort was also rustproofed by Bygging and comes with the relevant paperwork, along with paperwork showing it has had a Pava paint protection system.
The specification is as it was from new, even down to the driving lamps and the very rare Ghia alloy wheels which are sat on a matching set of the correct Michelin tyres. Would you expect anything less? In conclusion, you have an Escort in Ghia specification in unbelievably stunning condition, which is very original in every way, with great details of its history throughout its life as well as being a multiple show winner and from a very good and respected collection. If you are in any way connected with Ford collections, or you just want to own one of the best presented Escorts in the country, then this is the one for you.
