The Datsun 120A F-II Coupe was a distinctive compact car produced by Nissan under the Datsun brand between 1976 and 1978. It was part of the Nissan Cherry lineup, known in some markets as the 100A/120A series, and was developed as a front-wheel-drive vehicle - a rarity for Japanese cars of the era. The 120A F-II Coupe stood out for its sleek fastback styling, targeting younger buyers looking for an affordable yet sporty vehicle. Powered by a 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine, it balanced performance and economy, catering to global markets during the oil crisis. In Europe, particularly in the UK, it gained popularity for its reliability and quirky design. As one of Nissan’s early front-drive cars, it played a key role in shaping the company’s approach to compact car engineering.

We are delighted to offer this 1977 Datsun 120A F-II Coupe in white with black cloth interior. This UK supplied example was first registered in May 1977 and has had only 2 former keepers. Other than the V5C we don’t have any paperwork for the car but just the briefest glance at the condition will tell you that this is a cherished car. Japanese cars have never had the best reputation for rust-resistance and in the Seventies they were often showing signs of the dreaded tin-worm within a couple of years of delivery. The fact that this car has not only survived but is in such lovely shape is quite incredible. Indeed, whilst we can never guarantee mileage, it would be entirely believable if the indicated 26,500 was correct. Interrogating howmanyleft.co.uk leads us to believe this is one of only 14 left on the road and we would be very surprised if this wasn’t the best example out there.

Always a bit quirky when new, there seems to be a newfound appreciation for the styling of these little Japanese coupes. The car presents beautifully in its white paint with all of the difficult to find badging and trim present and correct. Even the steel wheels have their distinctive black centres in place. The interior is just as good with nice plastics and a crack-free dash. Those seeking originality will be delighted to see the thin-rimmed Datsun steering wheel and push-button radio. Compared to the many of its mid-Seventies competitors, the dash and seats are really rather stylish and the cockpit is a lovely place to spend time. The roof-lining is clean and tight. Under the boot hatch, is a clean and spacious expanse with a spare wheel sitting correctly beneath the carpet.

This year we have seen a huge interest in Datsuns of this era, with our two 120Ys selling pre-auction at considerably over their estimates. The quality of this smaller 120A is right up there with those cars and, combined with its rarity, it presents an opportunity that will be difficult to replicate. Come and view it in person at our purpose-built facility here in Cheshire - we doubt you’ll be disappointed!
