We are very grateful to the vendor for letting us bring this car to auction. This is possibly the best VW Golf we have ever seen, and maybe the only one available in the country. The VW has benefitted from a nut and bolt restoration and shows immense attention to detail and quality. You only have to look at it and you are instantly transported back to the 1970s, this is how good it is!

It is finished in a very nice and period colour of non-metallic green with the brown houndstooth cloth seats with brown vinyl door cards and rubber carpets, exactly as it left the factory, and doesn’t even have a radio or speakers. How good is that? The attention to detail is second to none, everything is detailed and most of it is either restored or new. The engine bay is possibly one of the best we have seen and the Golf even sits on a new set of Firestone tyres on lovely restored wheels. It even has a period “Desmo” roof rack fitted, which is easily taken off if you wish, but it does look well with it on. Another nice feature is the Golf has a Ziebart sticker in the rear window and you can see where it was injected into the car - a great feature that goes some way to explain its condition.

Paperwork wise, it is equally impressive with a huge amount of invoices and receipts dating back over many years. Some of them are in French, so it must have spent a little time in France during its life. It has its original owner’s manual and some old tax discs, old MOTs, as well as some previous owners details. The HPi and V5 would suggest the VW has only had 2 previous owners, but please satisfy yourself on whether this is correct. If it has only had 3 owners, that would be magical and really make this example the ‘holy grail’ of Golfs.

If you are part of the VW scene, then this definitely something you are going to want. You can turn up anywhere in this car and be safe in the knowledge that no one else is going to have anything remotely like it. How good a feeling is that? Cars like this only come along every so often, so make the most of this opportunity.
