  • A true English sports car
  • Becoming very rare, especially in this condition
  • Great history
  • Lots of fun for little money

Here we have a great looking Spitfire in the very bright and distinctive colour of Inca yellow with black interior and a black hood. It would appear to be completely stock standard as it left the factory, which is both a nice thing and a rare find as many have been modified in some way. This little Triumph was produced in November 1972 at Canley in Coventry, and registered on 19/4/1973 to its first owner. The HPi would have us believe that it was produced in red but had a colour change in 2000, when we believe it may have had a restoration. The Spitfire is still in great condition and looks very well.

The paperwork is equally as impressive with a host of invoices and receipts going back many years, as well as a collection of older MOTs and tax discs. The nice thing is that being 53 years old it is now exempt of both, so it is a great cheap car to run and one that can only improve in value if kept in the same condition. The paperwork also includes a selection of older V5s giving details of previous owners, and the HPi tells us that the current owner has owned it since 1996.

The Spitfire comes with a period radio, tonneau and a car cover, which tell you that it has been cared for. Because it is so nice, a few little things pop out as needing looking at. There are a few marks on the driver’s seat and the clutch may need attention, but this could be due to lack of use and may only be a fluid change. This is something we would always encourage you to do to any classic car that you buy.

We think you will like this Spitfire a lot - a great British sports car that is cheap to run and a whole lot of fun. This would make for a great starter classic or that special something for those lovely weekend drives.
