Offered here is an early AVO 1971 Ford Escort Mexico, still in its original shell and finished in stunning Maise Yellow with the contrasting black interior in original specification. Built at Fords Advanced Vehicle Operations factory in Aveley in June 1971 this vehicle was first registered on the 1st of July 1971. The Mexico still remains it original additional strengthening plates, including tramp bars, rear panel guard under the boot and original battery tray.

A history file reveals this cars journey with invoices dating back to 1986 and a collection of previous MOT certificates. The vehicle is supplied with original workshop manual, original handbook and AVO club information and a AVO plaque from Stanford hall 1990 . The vendor states that the car was taken off the road early in its life for minor restoration, then finally painted in original cellulose paint and put back on the road. The shell appears to have benefited from its time off the road, as it has only had replacement front wings and rear arches, however the boot area appears to have never been painted, which happens to be very rare for a AVO shell.

Since then, the Mexico has had a mechanical refresh in 2009 including fitment of anti-roll bars, new clutch plate and servo fitted, heavy duty engine and gearbox mounting and fuel pump with over £1250 spent

This one starts on the button and is a thrill to drive, especially with the sympathetic upgrades. A very useable classic which really can be enjoyed straight away by a lucky new custodian.
