Opulence is something few get to experience to this degree. The Silver Shadow was designed as a replacement for the somewhat aged design of the Silver Cloud in the mid-60s and was the first from Rolls-Royce to feature a completely monocoque design incorporating fully independent, self-levelling hydraulic suspension. Quite the marvel of engineering from the luxurious firm.

As you’d expect, these lavish saloons are becoming rather desirable as few are kept in such fantastic condition and were used as wedding cars etc. This one is different - although moderately overshadowed by the later series two, the original Silver Shadow is quickly becoming quite the collector’s piece as it was the car to put Rolls-Royce back on the top of the ladder for transporting the wealthy in hushed splendour. Living up to Rolls-Royce’s title, this was once again, the “Best car in the world”.

This particular example underwent a complete and comprehensive restoration process in 2018, which included a complete vehicle respray in a stunning and period correct two-tone Georgian Silver over Black. Due to the locations of ownership, a combination of Spain and Jersey, throughout the Silver Shadow’s lifespan, it has been kept in a very dry climate and presents itself in excellent condition.

The vendor has kindly provided the following information:

“Initially registered in Jersey in 1967 where it stayed until 2000, apart from a short period in Guernsey
Original registration documentation
Service and repair history provided for the vehicle by a local garage up to that date
Transported to southern Spain after its life in Jersey
Purchased by a Rolls-Royce collector in 2016 and remained in storage for two years
Relevant NOVA paperwork obtained from HMRC
Complete restoration took place in 2018
Bare metal respray in two-tone Georgian Silver over Black
Woodwork and brightwork restored
Refinished interior woodwork by an ex-Rolls-Royce trained restorer
Full replacement carpet set
Replacement parts and service items, including tyres, battery, starter motor, hydraulic spheres and brake pads
A total cost of £16,000 was invested into this gorgeous example
Completely refinished woodwork by a Rolls-Royce trained restorer in 2018
New carpet set installed in 2018
Gently patinated leatherwork in the form of light creasing
Fold-out rear wooden tables in outstanding shape
Roof liner showing no signs of damage or sagging
Original leather door cards in wonderful, presented condition
Brightwork throughout appears in fantastic shape
Armrests front and rear
Footrests for rear passengers
Bare metal respray in Georgian Silver over Black in 2018
Fantastic brightwork - rechromed bumpers, overrides and other parts
Replaced rear screen as the original was delaminating
Wheels all in fantastically presented condition
Straight and true bodywork with factory-fitting panel gaps
Originally painted in Shell Grey - although registered as Silver Blue Metallic
Always lived in dry climate
Chassis in outstanding condition”

Quickly becoming a very sought after and desirable Rolls-Royce, the original Silver Shadow is somewhat overlooked by the later series two variant by some people but others would disagree and say that the original of anything is always the best one to have. However due to this, there are very few originals in such cared for and well sorted condition. This Rolls-Royce is still registered in Jersey but has had the NOVA dealt with and comes with a Jersey registration document, the paperwork for the restoration has been misplaced by the vendor.

A fantastic opportunity to procure a tremendously cared for and collector owned example; this Silver Shadow is sure to be a treasured purchase for any potential new custodian. We can never say the car is completely perfect as there are always things you will find, but it’s a very good example and at the estimate looks to be an intelligent buy for someone.
