A Supreme Champion Mk1 Ford Cortina 4dr Standard Fleet Model with three owners.

EQUIPMENT
All steel integral construction, safety glass all round, zero torque locks, sealed beam headlamps, childproof locks, Aeroflow ventilation, single-tone horn, safety steering wheel, padded armrests, speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, main beam, ignition, temperature and indicator warning lights. Toggle switch for headlights and panel lights, choke control, ashtray. Factory Options; Heater and demister, front safety belts, passenger sun visor, anti-theft steering lock.

EXTERIOR
The stunning styling of the Mk1 Ford Cortina is still revered today and was Ford of Britain’s global success story. Finished in factory correct Purbeck Grey, (Code CH), this example has graced the show circuit having been the recipient of numerous MK1 Cortina Owners Club awards including winning the prestigious National Supreme Champion. The name Cortina is proudly on display on the bonnet and on the boot lid too in an elegant script style and the underside, wheel arches and all apertures are beautifully detailed. Distinguishing features of the Fleet Model are all clearly visible, (or not, due to their omission!), and include the body colour grille and extractor louvres on the rear roof for the Aeroflow ventilation system, normally chrome on De Luxe and Super models. Loved by just three owners, this car deserves all its success.

INTERIOR
Delightfully basic and functional the interior is all immaculately presented. The PVC upholstery to the deep foamed filled seats finished in contrasting Ravenna Red, (Code B413), are unmarked. Incredibly the original door cards and plastic washable headlining are still fitted with some slight fading. Being a Standard Cortina Saloon Fleet Model the flooring has a rubber covering, no door operated courtesy lights and no opening front quarter windows. To further emphasise the simplicity of this rare model, the water temperature gauge has a pictorial gear selector diagram! The ornate deep dished safety steering wheel is unmarked and circular cowled instruments all function along with the optional heater and demister with instruction card still present! A proven class winner and obvious to see why.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Having won so many awards onlookers will be amazed at the splendour of this immaculate example with the 1200cc engine sparkling clean and producing a healthy 54bhp. Simple, proven and robust mechanics combined with a fully traceable and comprehensive service record, will reassure the next proud owner. The original vehicle identification plate is still attached and the four-speed gearbox is light, precise and an absolute joy.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Pressed steel wheels with chrome unmarked hubcaps are shod in matching branded 145/80 R13 tyres with ample tread including the spare correctly recessed in the rear nearside wing. Front disc brakes and drums to the rear to a very good job of stopping the vehicle.

HISTORY FILE
What an incredible history file tracking this ultra-rare Mk1 Ford Cortina Standard Fleet model. Ordered on the 2nd May 1966 by Mr Clifford Chambers, a British Forces Headmaster posted at Johor, Malaysia through the Holly Motor Company Ltd as detailed on the new car invoice in preparation for his return to the UK. The Ford Motor Company Ltd Dagenham release document confirms the specification and delivery to Regent Street for UK first registration on the 22nd June 1966. Owned by Mr Chambers and his wife for the next 45 years and one Ford Cortina guru, James Clarke since 2011, this example has only had three owners from new in 57 years! In readiness for Mr Chambers next posting to Germany he also ordered continental headlamps, (now replaced with genuine Lucas items), and an anti-theft steering lock totalling £3.85! The car made a trip to Germany and the Townsend Car Ferries window sticker is still in the history file but continual tax discs from May 1967, MOT certificates and annual Ford main dealer servicing by Sparkes Garages in Bristol proves its UK home.

Once Britain’s best-selling car, the Standard Cortina Saloon or Fleet Model was marketed by Ford as ‘offering outstanding performance with economy; the lowest cost car in its class. An ideal vehicle for everyday business or for the family man who wants maximum saloon-car space at minimum cost.’ Correctly identified by the BA72 chassis number the Mk1 Ford Cortina Owners Club have established this as one of just 34 UK Fleet Models known to exist. In comparison, 486 Lotus Cortina are known to the Club! Furthermore, the Club have confirmed only three 4dr Aeroflow cars are known to exist worldwide. (Source: Marc Gimmel - Cortina MK1 Register). Highly regarded within the Mk1 Cortina Owners Club and previously owned by James Clarke since 2011, (the once proud owner of a concours 2dr Fleet Cortina KGF Classic Cars also now own), this example has won National Supreme Champion and Best Rare Model along with many more awards.

A file containing all invoices from new, every V5 including the original Buff Green Logbook are neatly filed with the cars Passport to Ford Service and handbook. Fully traceable history, rarity, low owners and a Supreme Champion, what fabulous credentials!
