For sale, due to house move: - 1950 MG YT open 4 seat tourer KYR576, No. YT3470. 1,250cc MG XPAG 4-cylinder OHV engine with twin SU carburettors, 4-speed gearbox with synchromesh on 2nd to 4th gears, rack and pinion steering and independent front suspension.
The MG YT was produced between 1948 and mid-1950. 877 were built, mainly for export with only 42 made for the UK market. Circa 170 are known to have survived in some form, with possibly as many as 30 back in the UK , mostly re-imported back here at some stage.
The XPAG engine is the same as that used in the MG TC and TD, Morris 10 and Wolseley 10 of the same era. The Y series cars share a lot of mechanical parts with the T series cars. Parts are readily available off the shelf through the Octagon car club, NTG and Moss.
5 previous owners, including 2 from the last owner’s family. The car was completely rebuilt, resprayed, seats reupholstered in red, red wool carpets and rewired around 2004 by the last owner. The cylinder head was rebuilt in 2005, suitable for lead free petrol, and a replacement XPAG engine rebuilt in 2007. MOT records indicate the car had done 1,050 miles since 2004, only 20 miles in the last 10 years and a further 200 miles in the last year. It has had over £2,000 spent on it in the last year with, a new front bumper, head gasket, crankshaft oil seal, clutch, timing chain, battery, battery box lid, tyre and inner tube, radiator hoses, replacement brake cylinders on the back brakes, replacement starter motor and flywheel, rear lights, plugs, electronic ignition, coil, fan belt, nitrophyl ethanol resistant carburettor floats, gearbox and engine oil and filter change plus carburettor rebuild and tuning.
The car has a white leather hood, 4 side screens, full tonneau cover and hood storage cover. The car has been garaged since rebuilt and is only used on dry days.
The car is fitted with a working Jackall system with hydraulic jacks front and back to raise the car, front, back or all 4, to facilitate a tyre change and other maintenance tasks. It has built in indicators front and back and a hazard warning system installed. The chassis and body are completely rust free, as is the chrome work.
Complete with V5, a history file dating back to 2005, old MOT certificates, tax discs and invoices for work done and parts purchased, owners handbook, maintenance manual and book of service parts, starting handle, wheel brace, jack and a few running spares.
I have a spare black double duck hood and 4 new unused side screen blanks. This and a good spare MG engine block and many other parts may be available by separate negotiation.
