  • A very 1970s Hot Rod
  • Great colour scheme
  • Great specification
  • Very reluctant sale

Here is a very interesting opportunity for someone. If you are a child of the 1970s and you were into cars, you will remember magazines like Custom Car and Street Machine, and probably got excited about all the customised cars and Hot Rods (I know I did). Well, here’s your chance to have one of those cars straight from the golden era of Hot Rods.

This example started life as a 1950 Ford Pilot and, according to the HPi, it was registered on 11/12/1950 and has only had 2 previous owners. If this is correct, this makes it very rare as there can’t be many with such a low ownership. The Rod looks fantastic and is everything you would want it to be. It carries that American look with an open engine, which we believe is a Ford V8 mated to a manual gearbox, open wheels, 2 seats and a pickup style design - a great looking thing! The paintwork is very of the time, finished in a combination of grey, black and red with the flowing flames design down the side. This is complemented with a set of naked red wheels with white wall tyres, external exhaust system on both sides, and a set of steps to make it a little easier to get in and out of. All of this is a great look and wouldn’t look out of place in California living the dream with your best girl by your side, or in the rain in central Manchester, your choice.

We are grateful to the vendor for kindly providing the following information:

“Due to chronic illness, my correctly registered Flathead V8 Ford Pilot Hot Rod is for sale.
All parts rebuilt with nut and bolt restoration. All parts from original 1950 Ford Pilot, with body widened by 6 inches. Engine runs sweet and is still running in.
Well known Rod, originally built in the 1970s and put to sleep until 3 years ago, where it was completely stripped down to the last nut and bolt and rebuilt.
Correctly registered with the DVLA, tax and MOT exempt.
Agreed valuation by VHRA of £14,000.
Quality built by well-known Rod builder.
Eligible for all VHRA runs and beach races but never shown.
This Rod has had little use since build due to illness and is in excellent condition.”

As you can see, this is a good Rod and is only for sale due to circumstances mentioned above. With a little bit of love, this will be absolutely stunning and a whole load of fun. The Rod is scene is growing at a fast rate of knots, and is very much a thing at shows. Come and get yourself some fun!
