We are indebted to the vendor for supplying the following information:

“Land Rover began production in late August 1948. ‘KUP 50’ was built on 29th June 1949 and despatched to Durham on 12th July 1949, registered by F.G. Dinsdale Ltd, Stockton on Tees. It was bought in 1984 by myself from Eric Hadwin at Torver. Then, it remained a “project” completed in 2022. The 1600cc original engine was rebored, repistoned, etc., all pistons and bits were bought from Cox and Allan supplies. It also features headlights (original) behind the grille. Ring pull for four-wheel drive release and side lights on the bulkhead. Engine, gearbox, chassis, bulkhead, all numbers are original.”

Offered here is a superb 1949 (the first 12 months of production) Land Rover Series 1 presented in Green with Green interior seats. This example is a desirable lights behind the grille and ring pull gearbox model. Still retaining the original 1600cc petrol engine which starts on the button. This Series 1 has been in current ownership since August 1985 where it was purchased from Lakeland Land Rover, Coniston, and restored in 2022 with over £15,000 spent on parts alone. Emphasis on originality was at the front of the vendor's mind when restoring it, keeping the original 1600cc engine, ring pull gearbox, undrilled front wings, original metal ‘D’ lamps, date-stamped Serck radiator, and front spade seats.

This highly original Land Rover has been refinished in its original shade of Green, showing signs of charming patination all around the body. The interior seats have been refreshed with new green padding.

This one would grace any collection and rightly so - certainly one for the purists. Fantastic for trundling down country lanes, it deserves to be taken to shows in the coming season. Be sure not to miss this well sorted and highly original example.

PLEASE NOTE: The registration ‘KUP 50’ displayed is not currently registered on the DVLA system, however, it is confirmed as the original number on the accompanying heritage certificate. Hopefully, it will be a straightforward process to reunite the two.
