1935 Austin 12/4 Harrow - 2-Seater Tourer with Dickey

The Austin 12 was introduced in 1921 being effectively a scaled down version of the 4-cylinder 20 horsepower model. Available in numerous guises, it became renowned for its ability to withstand hard service and its unfailing reliability with many of the taxi cab versions remaining in commercial use well into the 1950s. Open touring models have always been popular and among the most attractive were the two seat tourers with Dickey seats.

Presented here is one of the last of the ‘Harrow’ model, having been first registered in July 1935, making it quite likely to be the youngest of this model in existence. She has an interesting history as she was acquired by a previous owner in completely dismantled form having been understood to be taken apart shortly after the end of World War II.

A painstaking restoration has been undertaken being completed around 5 years ago with a vast quantity of photographs showing the restoration in progress.

Finished in blue with matching trim, new carpets, hood and side screens, she presents extremely well. The 5 bearing engine pulls extremely well especially on hills and it is easy to understand why these cars were so highly regarded in their heyday.

Through the good offices of the Vintage Austin Register, spares and support are readily available.

Along with the restoration photographs are various bills, notes from previous owner detailing her history and an entry from West Moorland County Council motor taxation office giving details of the car’s first registered owner – in Kendal.
