This 1933 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Freestone & Webb Fixed-Head Four-Seater Coupe represents a rare opportunity to acquire a beautifully crafted and highly usable example of one of the most significant models in Rolls-Royce history. The 20/25 was the company's most successful inter-war car, with 3,827 examples produced, and was instrumental in securing Rolls-Royce’s survival during the Great Depression. This particular example, clothed in an exquisite Freestone & Webb coupe body, epitomises the grace, refinement, and prestige of the marque, offering a truly special motoring experience.
Under the bonnet, the 20/25 was powered by a 3.7-litre inline six-cylinder engine, delivering the effortless performance and refinement that Rolls-Royce is famed for. The driving experience is further enhanced by synchromesh third and fourth gears, making gear changes noticeably smoother and adding to its usability on modern roads. Unlike many pre-war cars, this example has been thoughtfully upgraded with a J-type Lagcock remanufactured overdrive, installed at a cost of £2,600, making it an exceptional choice for touring and long-distance motoring.
This 20/25 was first registered in May 1933 and comes with a remarkably well-documented history. The buff logbook from 1959 remains with the car, along with an original bill of specification from Rolls-Royce dealer Jack Olding of Mayfair. The bill of sale for the chassis to Freestone & Webb, priced at £1,185 (over £80,000 in today’s money), confirms its prestigious origins. A selection of MOT certificates dating back to 1962 further demonstrates its well-documented provenance.
Having been under the care of its previous owner since 1993, the car underwent an exhaustive restoration that saw no expense spared. Acclaimed Rolls-Royce specialists Brunt’s of Silverdale carried out significant work between 1995 and 1996, with invoices totalling £32,000. Additional receipts document further extensive investment, including a replacement cylinder block and pistons costing £5,095, along with numerous expenditures on paint, bodywork, retrimmed interiors, electrics, and more - bringing the total documented spend to roughly £70,000. Including the price of purchase the previous owner spent over £92,000 to get the car as it is seen today. It must be said, absolutely no expense was spared to present this Rolls in the best possible condition.
Not just a showpiece, this Rolls-Royce is a true driver’s car, running and performing exceptionally well. It stands as a testament to the quality and craftsmanship of its era, yet it remains remarkably practical for use today. As with any car of this age there are a few minor blemishes, however they fail to take away from the breathtaking looks. Opportunities to acquire such an authentic, well-documented, and highly capable pre-war Rolls-Royce are becoming increasingly rare, and this example offers an exceptional blend of historical significance, usability, and timeless elegance.
We warmly invite serious collectors and enthusiasts to view this magnificent motorcar in person. With its rich history, meticulous restoration, and sheer presence on the road, this is more than just a car - it’s a chance to own and enjoy a true piece of Rolls-Royce heritage.
