Sellers description
1933 Alvis Firefly 12
The Alvis Firefly 12 was designed as a scaled-down version of the Speed 20 model but with a four-cylinder 1496 cc engine. This replica Cross and Ellis ( now aluminium) body was constructed in 1993 at the same time as a total nut and bolt rebuild by an Alvis specialist. It is still in generally excellent condition having only covered under 19,000 miles since then. The original engine I changed in 1964 shortly after I bought the car and is available amongst a multitude of spares including a manual gearbox and axles etc. It has the original preselector gearbox ( also rebuilt) which has never failed me . The brakes are really strong as they are the same as those fitted to the heavier Speed 20. The oil pressure is 40 at 40, and consumption is light for a vintage car. The chrome plating is excellent still. The thermosiphon water system is now assisted by a fan for the hotter burning fuel available today. Also, I added indicators and a fog light in keeping for safety. The hood and tonneau are without any cuts and are easy to fit. The body colour is the same as when it left the factory.
Since the rebuild, it has toured both New Zealand and the East Coast of America without any problem. “Thumper “ as he was on arrival was my first car in 1963, so now I’m very reluctantly selling due to Anno Domini. Comes with buff log books going back to 1959.
