1931 Alvis 12/50 TJ Four Seat Tourer

During 1929, Alvis ceased production of the 12/50 in order to concentrate on the Front Wheel Drive model. However, this did not achieve the anticipated success and the well-established 12/50 was revised and reintroduced in September 1930. Designated ‘TJ’ Series, this model was available in saloon, tourer and two-seater with dickey seat variants. Changes to the design included a taller radiator, modifications to the chassis and coil ignition was now standardised, although it was possible to specify a magneto if required. The TJ was followed by the ‘TK’ and ‘TL’ models - the latter with a twin carburettor engine now developing 56 bhp.

Offered here is a 1931 ‘TJ’ four seat tourer. Discovered in Ireland in poor condition and having a shooting brake body which had been fitted in the early ‘50’s, this car underwent a major restoration in the late 1980’s, which included the fitment of a new body, being an exact replica of the Cross & Ellis four seat tourer. There is a copy of the original Build Sheet and details of the supplying dealer in Northern Ireland and details of all previous owners are provided.

During the last 3 years, the engine has been rebuilt by a leading Alvis specialist and in the last couple of months the brakes have been relined, and new front wheel bearings fitted with electrical work carried out which included the dynamo being overhauled. A full service has been carried out and the engine tuned. 

The hood and side screens are in good condition and there is a full tonneau cover and hood bag.
