1929 Austin Heavy 12/4 Burnham

For many years the Austin 12/4 has been a cornerstone of the Vintage Car movement. Well built, unfailingly reliable and very pleasant to drive, these cars have always been revered. A particularly original example of the ever-popular Austin 12/4, this car was supplied new by George Heath Ltd of Birmingham and registered on 2nd July 1929.  There is a list of subsequent owners which follows the car’s life right up to the present day - something that is often unknown after so long. This car would appear to have never been restored, merely maintained over the years, which is testimony to the enduring strength and reliability of this model.

For safety on today’s roads, flashing indications have been added and this, together with the fitment of a period coil ignition conversion, are the only deviations from the original specification.

The engine pulls strongly and shows the correct oil pressure. During the present ownership the car has been used regularly, proving to be very reliable. The radiator has been replaced in the recent past.  The clutch has been replaced and the brakes overhauled.  The previous ower had the engine rebuilt at considerable expense.  The car has been serviced and is ready to go.

Included on file are the original Driver’s Handbook, Spare Parts List and Schedule of Repair Charges. There are also a number of bills and previous MOT Certificates. Also supplied are two door keys - the doors still lock securely after 91 years.  Within the paperwork is a Buff RF60 Log Book dating back to 1942.  There is also a luggage rack, essential for touring.

In summary, a charming and honest Vintage Austin showing evidence of a long life well lived, she does have room for some sympathetic cosmetic improvement, but is ‘on the button’ and ready for many more years of travel and enjoyment.
