Sellers description

1927 Austin 12/4 Tourer

NOW SOLD

ABSOLUTELY & TOTALLY IMMACULATE - 1300 miles since complete restoration by the present owner over 40 years...complete with original Gloucester registration, registered on 11th June 1927. Never been out in the rain.

For sale with the sought-after and attractive early narrow body and short radiator cowl BUT WITH the longer stroke larger 1866cc engine fitted to the later cars. A changeover period car for the Austin 12/4, the new engine was ready, so it was fitted to the outgoing prettier Austin 12/4 Tourer offered for sale today. It is absolutely correct for the 1926/7 change over period, the earlier narrow body cars fitted with the 1600cc engine

PROGRESSION OF BODY CHANGES : This car has a body number prefix of 4 TT. The earlier narrow body cars with the 1600cc engine had a prefix of 3TT, with the later cars having a wider body, taller rad shell, and 1866 cc engine , these cars had a 5TT prefix. This car being an intermediary 4TT car makes it more desirable on account of its early pretty body but with more powerful 1866cc engine.

Purchased in 1980 by the vendor in very poor condition from a man who had owned it for about 10 years, in turn he had acquired it from someone else who had rescued it from a field.

Over the following 32 years it was subject to a painstaking and quite costly restoration by the present owner - duly completed in 2012. Since then it has had very little use, indeed just 1300 miles travelled. He tracked down the farmer in Keynsham near Bristol where the car had been abandoned and went to see him shortly after he bought this car. The farmer was delighted that the Austin still existed, and told him he purchased this car in about 1945. Clearly this car had probably never left the area in its life. The last entry for road tax in the buff logbook is Jan 1952, the RF60 Log Book on file dating back to 1946.
