Sellers description

1925 Chevrolet Superior K

From a deceased estate; 95% restored; new wheels and tyres; just a few weekends work to complete; RHD Australian import; loads of potential The Chevrolet Superior was a development of the excellent 490 model. Improvements to the lubrication system and a more contemporary look ensured that Chevrolet soon topped the sales charts – ousting Ford from top spot with their antiquated Model T.

Conventional in every sense, Chevrolet used a robust 2.8-litre four-cylinder engine with overhead valves driving through a dry clutch to the three-speed crash box. The engine used an external oil pump which filled a gallery inside the engine with oil collected by dippers on the big ends – all very simple and entirely reliable. The chassis was light yet incredibly durable thanks to the use of the highest quality materials. The bodywork was built around an ash frame, which unlike British bodies, used numerous clever castings and steel brackets for strength. They sold like hot cakes both at home and abroad. This 1925 RHD example initially found its way to Australia. Its early history is unknown, but it was purchased by the vendor’s late father in 1995 from a chap called Joe who lived in Melbourne. He had completed the chassis restoration which had been done to near concours standard, with all of the mechanical elements overhauled including a complete engine rebuild. He had started on the bodywork when other commitments took over. Once a deal was struck, the Chevrolet was imported to the UK and further work commenced. The bodywork was completed, painted in two-tone green and most of the trim installed before it was put to the back of the garage during a house-building programme. The engine was fired up, although this was some years ago. There are boxes of parts to complete, with all the small parts needed such as the horn push, dash light, sidelight lenses and headlights etc. The wiring loom is all new and correct and as far as the vendor is aware, everything is present with the exception of the headlight and screen glass. A huge amount of work has been completed, including floor boards, hood sticks etc and a few weekends work plus a hood and some trim finishing will see it ready for the road. The wheels were fully restored in Australia and it comes with four unused tyres. There are notes and references on file, a spare parts book and its import documentation from 1995 which should make it’s UK registration a straightforward process.

For the fraction of the price of a very average Chummy, this powerful and practical family four seater looks fantastic value.
