1924 Austin 12/4 Clifton Tourer

One of the most popular cars of its time, the Austin 12/4 became the byword for dependability. Sturdily built and economical to run, a good number have survived to the present day and are frequently seen at Vintage vehicle meetings and events.

This example dates from 1924 and was exported to Australia when new. The rugged qualities of this model ensured a strong demand in the Antipodes, where road conditions frequently left much to be desired.

It was discovered in 1998 in the Barossa Valley, South Australia, having been stored sine 1974 when it was last used. It was acquired by the late owner and imported back into Britain onto the Isle of Wight and an extensive restoration from the bare chassis was embarked upon.

The car is well presented, with green and black coachwork with the brown leather trim having been renewed during the restoration. In good mechanical order, the Austin drives well, although it has seen little use in the past year.

The hood frame was replaced and the hood renewed.

Early models of the Austin 12/4 rarely become available, so this represents an opportunity to acquire a very sound example of this much-loved Vintage Austin.

Included with the paperwork is an album of photos showing the car as found and following the restoration process to completion. There is also an original Driver’s Handbook and a letter from British Motor Industry Heritage Trust confirming the year of manufacture to be 1924.
